Library Jointly Owned
by City of Lincoln, Sierra Joint Community College District
and Western Placer Unified School District
SACRAMENTO, CA (October 28, 2004) -- Preconstruction services
are currently underway for the new $16.5 million Lincoln Public
Library at Twelve Bridges, a joint effort among the city of
Lincoln, Sierra Joint Community College District and Western
Placer School District. Adjacent to a local community college
and high school, the two-story, 40,000-square-foot facility
will accommodate the informational, technological and meeting
space needs of both campuses, as well as the growing population
of the greater Lincoln area. McCarthy Building Companies,
Inc. recently announced as the project’s construction
manager, is currently overseeing the site preparation phase,
including readying the facility’s infrastructure and
site grading. McCarthy is also performing the budget management
and scheduling services of the project.
A recipient of a $10.4 million grant from the California
Public Library Construction and Renovation Board, the joint-use
library will include community and group meeting space equipped
with telecommunications equipment, computer labs, video-conferencing
capabilities and self-checkout / self-return computers.
“The Library at Twelve Bridges will provide much needed
public services to the community, as well as the student bodies
of the high school and community college,” said Gerald
Johnson, Lincoln city manager.
Currently scheduled to begin construction in 2005 with an
expected completion in 2006, the facility will serve as the
main branch of the Lincoln Public Library and will provide
access to a learning environment that will enhance and expand
on what the public library provides. Educational resources
to be available include tutoring areas, classrooms for joint
high school and community college classes, computers to accomplish
assignments and access productivity software, curriculum development
labs for teachers and faculty, and multimedia project work.
“This project is unique because it is has three owners,
each with their own advisory boards and jurisdictions. We
are working with representatives from the city, school district
and college in order to meet the specific requirements and
needs of their constituencies,” said McCarthy Project
Director Steve Jennemann. “In addition to maintaining
consistent, constant communications with the three agencies,
we are carefully monitoring the grant’s details to ensure
compliance in regard to the construction conditions.”
Designed by NTD/Stickler Architects of Auburn, Calif., the
facility will include a structural steel frame with stained
concrete surface. Celestorial glass will be utilized in order
to allow for the use of natural light throughout the facility.
Easy pedestrian and bicycle access will be made available
from both campuses.
